Midigama Sri Lanka
Midigama is Weligama’s baby brother. A small surf town on the southern tip of Sri Lanka that can be easily missed but definitely NOT to be missed. I spent 2 days in Midigama drinking coconuts, surfing and relaxing on the beach!
HOW TO FIND MIDIGAMA
Midigama is 150km south of Colombo (2.5 hours) and only 4km (5 minutes) from Weligama.
WHERE TO STAY IN MIDIGAMA
There is no shortage of accomodation in Midigama but I can personally recommend 2 great places to stay.
- Surf Paradise & Cabana A stones throw from the beach and incredible ocean views. There is an in-house restaurant, free wi-fi, excellent rooms and friendly staff. 3000 Rupees per night.
- Gem Villa A cosy, family owned house with 2 private rooms available. There are no ocean views but it’s a short 2 minute walk to Midigama Beach. 1000 Rupees per night.
Midigama is so small that you can walk from one end of the beach to the other in 10 minutes. If you are wanting to head to neighbouring towns Ahangama or Weligama for a supermarket or ATM, it is best to hail down a tuk-tuk that will cost you 200 Rupees. Otherwise to walk it will take you 30 minutes to 1 hour. There is no ATM machine in Midigama so make sure you have enough cash for your time spent here.
