DISCOVER BUKIT MERESE IN KUTA LOMBOK!
Bukit Merese is one of the most popular spots on Lombok Island to explore rolling grass hills, swim at deserted white sand beaches and marvel at the amazing view overlooking Kuta Lombok.
I have put together this complete guide of Bukit Merese Lombok including how to get there, how much it costs and what to expect when you arrive at Bukit Merese.
Have you got travel insurance for Lombok? I know that nobody likes to talk about this stuff but accidents can happen and having World Nomads Insurance can save you thousands of dollars if something goes wrong.

If you have a set of wheels, it takes approximately 15 minutes to drive to Bukit Merese from the main tourist town of Kuta Lombok.
You can rent a scooter in Kuta Lombok for as little as 50,000 IDR per day and explore south Lombok at your own pace. Your accommodation should be able to sort you out with some wheels if not, there are many scooter rental stores dotted through Kuta Lombok.

ARRIVING AT BUKIT MERESE
There is a parking lot at the jump-off point to Bukit Merese and the parking fee is 5,000 IDR. If you like, you can buy beer, snacks and water from one of the many mobile vendors in the parking lot.
The walk up to the Bukit Merese viewpoint takes around 5-minutes to where you will see the idyllic features of rolling grass hills and several small beaches and coves.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT BUKIT MERESE
When you reach the top of Bukit Merese, it’s a matter of picking your own headland to perch up and watch the sunset. The most popular viewpoint at Bukit Merese is where most of the crowd will be, standing around a dead tree on the edge of the cliff.
We decided to walk for a little longer to a headland that stretches right out over the ocean and we had a grassy patch on top of Bukit Merese Hill all to ourselves. The sky put on an incredible show for us displaying soft pinks and blues to then bright oranges and burning reds!

BUKIT MERESE LOMBOK
The following day we decided to head back to Bukit Merese to explore the area again during daylight. Bukit Merese Lombok looked so good during the sunset the night before that we just had to go back for more.
The sun was burning hot and the skies were bright blue on this day and surprisingly not another soul in sight.
Around every corner and over every peak at Bukit Merese we found stunning beaches and fluorescent shallow reefs.
It was so hot on Bukit Merese that we couldn’t resist taking a dip in the ocean. We spent 3 – 4 hours exploring several beaches and cliff tops then decided to continue on to Tanjung Aan Beach for lunch.

OTHER SPOTS NEAR BUKIT MERESE
We drove east from Bukit Merese to a beach called Pantai Tanjung Aan. Surprisingly, there was not a soul in sight once again!
We had Tanjung Aan Beach entirely to ourselves and decided to grab a bite to eat at one of the beachside warungs, just a stone’s throw away from the water’s edge. A $2 nasi goreng was an easy decision for lunch with a view!
Right around the corner from Tanjung Aan Beach is a field of coconut palm trees which is a great spot to shoot some photos. We mucked around here on the scooters, having way too much fun and feeling like a kid again!

If you are coming from the north of Lombok after trekking Mount Rinjani, you can organise a driver and a van for the day which costs around 700,00 IDR.
The drive from the north to the south is around 3-hours. However, we stopped into Central Lombok to visit some waterfalls, so the journey took us an entire day but I highly recommend visiting these waterfalls on your way through.
