Cloud 9 Siargao is rated as the best surf break in the Philippines and one of my favorite spots to hang out on Siargao Island. Whether you are a die-hard surfer or not, a visit to Cloud 9 Siargao will definitely make your day, especially around sunrise or sunset.

Have you got travel insurance for Philippines? I know that nobody likes to talk about this stuff but accidents can happen and having World Nomads Insurance can save you thousands of dollars if something goes wrong.
WHERE IS CLOUD 9 SIARGAO
Cloud 9 surf is located on the south-east corner of Siargao Island in the Philippines. Cloud Nine surf can be found nearby the happening town of General Luna.
From Siargao Airport to Cloud 9, it is approximately a one hour drive. My friends and I jumped in a tuk-tuk directly outside the airport and made our way to General Luna. The tuk-tuk cost us 500 pesos total.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT CLOUD NINE SIARGAO
Cloud 9 is home to the ‘Cloud 9 Surfing Cup’, a WSL surf event that occurs every year in the peak of the Siargao surfing season between late September and early October. Each year, professional surfers from around the world compete against each other on the barreling right-hand wave at Cloud 9 Siargao.
If you happen to be in Siargao around this time, you can expect big crowds and lots of parties. If you are not a big surfer and don’t like crowds, this wouldn’t be the best time to visit Siargao.
The best time to surf Cloud 9 Siargao is on a mid to high tide. It gets very shallow on low tide and the reef beneath the Cloud 9 wave is very sharp.

CLOUD 9 SIARGAO
When I arrived in General Luna Siargao, the first thing on my list of things to do was to head straight to the Cloud 9 boardwalk to watch the sunset. A long wooden pier stretches out across the reef which ends at a 3-story viewing platform that overlooks the Cloud 9 wave, a popular Siargao tourist spot.
There is a white sand beach dotted with palm trees at the beginning of the Cloud 9 Siargao pier where you can find a number of surf shacks that rent out surfboards. Surfboard rental is 200 pesos per hour or 500 pesos for a full day.
Be aware that Cloud 9 surf is an expert wave and not recommended for beginners. There is a smaller break to the left of Cloud 9 Siargao called ‘Jacking Horse’, perfect for beginners and intermediate surfers.
Looking for something to eat before or after a surf at Cloud 9 Siargao? There is a small cafe on Siargao beach, next to the pier, called ‘Cafe Loka’. My friends and I ordered some toasted sandwiches for a late afternoon snack that cost us 250 pesos each. Cafe Loka also serves coffee, fresh juices and salads.

BEST TIME OF DAY TO VISIT CLOUD 9 SIARGAO
As always, my favorite time of day is at sunrise for the early morning glow and at sunset for that smooth golden hour. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed when watching a sunrise or a sunset from the pier at Cloud 9 Siargao.
If you want to avoid surfing in a crowd, the earlier you paddle out to the Cloud 9 wave the better as it is one of the more popular Siargao surf spots.
If you plan to go swimming at the beach or around the pier at Cloud 9 Siargao, it is best visited on a high tide so there is deep enough water to get submerged in.
