OVERVIEW – TAYANGBAN CAVE POOL SIARGAO

Let’s start this guide with all the essentials you should know before coming, such as the location, how to get there, and more.

WHERE IS TAYANGBAN CAVE POOL?

To get to Tayangban from General Luna it’s approximately a 30-minute drive.

HOW TO GET TO TAYANGBAN CAVE POOL?

One of the most common ways to get here is on a scooter.

The cost for a scooter rental in General Luna is around 300-400 pesos per day, or for a monthly rental, you’ll get a cheaper rate of around 200-300 pesos per day.

Most accommodations in General Luna will be more than happy to help you organize a scooter rental for your time spent on Siargao Island.

HOW MUCH IS THE TAYANGBAN CAVE POOL ENTRANCE FEE?

The entrance fee to Tayangban Cave Pool costs 70 PHP (USD $1.20). Apart from the entrance fee, you’ll have to pay 100 PHP (USD $1.70) for a guide.

In fact, you can’t get into the cave pool Siargao without a guide, as he will have to show you around, so keep that in mind.

ARRIVING AT TAYANGBAN CAVE POOL

When you arrive, you will clearly see the entrance sign, as shown in the image above, on the right-hand side of the road.

Park your scooter in the shade and you’ll see a simple hut at the entrance to the cave which acts as the ticket office.

Tayangban Cave Pool is managed by the property owners and the entrance fee is 100 pesos which includes a mandatory guide.

If you have a dry bag, you can take your phone and camera equipment with you, though if you don’t have one, be prepared for it to get wet.

I decided to just take my GoPro waterproof camera with me to capture the adventure.

It’s also possible to leave your bags and other valuables at the entrance under the supervision of the staff.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT TAYANGBAN CAVE POOLS

Let’s now go through a more detailed Tayangban cave pool description.

We followed our local guide through a tiny crack in the rock and down into the freshwater pool caves in Siargao.

The water was about waist deep and we were aided by our guide who led the way through the darkness with his single torch. There are anchored ropes and some bamboo structures to help you through some of the deeper sections.

Inside the cave, we could hear the echoing sounds of bats that hung from the ceiling and we spotted ancient stalactites in the shape of ice pinnacles.

After about 15 minutes of canyoneering through the cave, we reached the light at the end of the tunnel which opened up into a unique cenote.

CLIFF JUMPING AT TAYANGBAN CAVE POOL

Once we reached the end of the cave we followed the way through a small canyon to an incredible emerald-green rock pool surrounded by hanging vines.

There are two cliff jumping spots to choose from at the rock pool, one is from a 2-meter high rock and the second is from the cliff edge, which is approximately 5-meter high.

Check the water first before you jump, and ask your guide where you should aim for. The depth of the rock pool is around 3 to 4 meters so the chances of hitting the bottom are slim.

My friends and I spent about 1-hour cliff-jumping into the emerald-green rock pools before heading up the dirt trail to the exit.
