JONAS HORNEHOJ – @thefreedomcomplex

Jonas is a full-time traveller and adventure photographer/videographer from Denmark. His passion and career for photo and video started and unfolded in Asia where he spent over a year. More recently he spent a long time shooting and travelling around Europe but is now relocating to Asia in mid-August! Australia is #1 on his bucket list at the moment so he’s equally excited to explore and shoot all of the locations we’ll be going to!

DAY 1 – ARRIVE CAIRNS/ WELCOME DINNER/ CAIRNS ‍‍

Welcome to Tropical North Queensland! Arrive as early as possible, even better if possible the days before. Reason being you can relax and settle before your 2-on-1 sit with Jonny and Jonas specialising in your interests.

Topics could be photography, blogging, full-time travel tips, getting clients through creative work, video work, how to brand yourself, etc.

This tropical North Queensland town is a haven for travellers and is the hub for seeing the amazing sights nearby!

In the evening the group will meet for a welcome dinner, you will make friends straight away and head out for a couple of drinks afterwards.

ARRIVAL

Fly into Cairns airport (CNS). It is best to arrive as early as possible for this day. If you have more time, we would advise arriving the days before in order to get settled for your one-on- one sit downs (only an additional $30USD per night).

Airport transfers will run throughout the day between 8am-8pm.

INCLUDED

Welcome dinner, one-on-one sitdowns

DAY 2 – ATHERTON TABLELANDS/ CAIRNS

This will be one of the most fun days out of the whole trip. The guides on this tour are amazing and you will certainly get to know all of the group by the end of today! This will be another chance for everyone to bond and feel part of a team.

This fun-packed day is all about being in the water, getting under the waterfalls and swimming in natural rock pools surrounded by spectacular tropical scenery!! Millaa Millaa is one of the many beautiful waterfalls and is known for its tv adverts such as the herbal essences and Timotei commercials.

You will also visit Josephine falls – a natural rock slide, surrounded by luscious greenery. To top it all off there will be some stunning lookout points, perfect for those photo opportunities.

We will stay overnight in an eco-lodge, but not before saying “Hello” to one of the worlds cutest creatures – the platypus!

By the end of the day, everyone will be best mates.

INCLUDED

Lunch and Dinner. Activities and Tour. Small chat/ possible workshop (either today or tomorrow)

DAY 3 – CAPE TRIBULATION/ DAINTREE RAINFOREST/ CAIRNS

Cape tribulation is the oldest rainforest in the world. It is older than the Amazon and all the other South American rainforests. It is also the only place in the world where two world heritage sights meet!

The drive that hugs the coast to taking you here is breath-taking enough. Discover the rainforest on foot, check out the tropical beaches and spot the crocodiles in their natural habitat!

Take a dip in one of the many creeks and listen to the silence. Just the sound of the water and the birds in the trees.

After trying to spot a cassowary (Dinosaur bird), it is time to head back to Cairns.

INCLUDED

Breakfast and lunch, full tour and activities

DAY 4 – GREAT BARRIER REEF/ OVERNIGHT TO AIRLIE

The Great Barrier Reef is, of course, one of the finest places in Australia and is top of most people’s bucket list. How can it not be? It is one of the seven wonders of the world!

If you want to add on a Scuba dive for extra this can be arranged. It is one of the best boats to learn to dive with having small groups. There are two diving and snorkelling locations, both with lots of hard and soft coral. The crew onboard are awesome and really spend the time getting to know you and making you feel comfortable for those who may be a little nervous.

Snorkel all day like a fish, spot turtles and exotic coloured fish and even nemo! A magical day that you will never forget in an underwater paradise. It really is like being in another world.

Then it’s off to the next destination… Airlie beach… the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands.

INCLUDED

Lunch, Tour

DAY 5 – AIRLIE BEACH

Airlie Beach is where you will depart on your ‘once in a lifetime’ Whitsundays trip. Depending on the day of the week there are some great markets to visit along the seafront.

It’s a cute town, full with that “holiday feel”. The lagoon is a great place to chill, relax and unwind, go swimming and have a BBQ.

Today we will all sit down together and review the past few days of tours, activities and experiences and spend time as a group to edit or talk about photography/ another skill.

INCLUDED

Workshop

DAY 6 to 8 – WHITSUNDAYS ISLANDS

The Whitsunday Islands are made up of 74 tropical islands all on the reef. The only thing we can compare this to is …. the Caribbean. Beautiful turquoise waters, tropical climates, palm trees and sunsets.

The world-renown Whitehaven beach is home to some of the whitest sands in the world, a great place for some stunning panoramic photos. Snorkel the reefs and discover the islands!

But it gets even better…… your home for the next couple of days will be a private beach resort! A true taste of luxury including a swimming pool, jacuzzi, tennis courts, and even paddleboards.

This resort, once owned by one of Australia’s richest families, is a true paradise. Sit back, relax and don’t worry about the food. The chef that will cook up the famous green curry. Have an ice-cold beer whilst watching the sunset in your hammock, then later chill out around a bonfire with your new friends.

These few days will really provide some “pinch yourself” moments. You will not want to leave, but when we make it back it’s time to head off to the next adventure.

The second night we can assess the past few days and discuss photography. There really couldn’t be a better place to have a workshop! Possibly the best work location we have ever witnessed.

Included

2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, snacks, full tour and activities, photography workshop

DAY 9 – RAINBOW BEACH

Take the day to relax at Rainbow beach. Have a try at sandboarding or simply relax at the beach.

We will head to the Carlo Sand Blow – a beautiful place to watch the sunset. Not too many people know about this place before they go, but it’s a little hidden gem.

Also, a day to sit down and review things.

DAY 10 & 11 – FRASER ISLAND

Today is Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. It’s complex ecosystem and the fact that tropical forest grows solely from sand, makes it completely unique to Australia and a place that you cannot find anywhere else in the world!

The only way to get onto Fraser island is by boat. There are no roads on Fraser Island which means a 4×4 safari is the only mode of transport, the beach and jungle is your road! Super fun!

Check out the jaw-dropping lakes such as lake McKenzie, which is simply so breath-taking it doesn’t look real.

Discover desert-like landscapes to oasis-style lakes and take a short hike to the top of Indian head, which boasts great views over Fraser Island. If you look hard enough you can normally see all kinds of marine life such as whales and turtles.

At night, everyone cooks and eats together like a big happy family around the fire. We then advise heading to the beach (stone’s throw away) and laying down underneath the clearest night sky, watch the shooting stars. A magical couple of days.

INCLUDED

2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 1 dinner, full tour and activities

DAY 12 – NOOSA NATIONAL PARK

Noosa is a cute little beach town on the sunshine coast known for its awesome surf and stunning beaches!

Your accommodation with pool is the perfect place to relax after your hike through the national park.

The national park hike hugs the coastline and is home to countless secret coves and secluded beaches. If you look hard enough you might spot koalas in the trees or dolphins out at sea.

Noosa is a true taste of the Australian beach lifestyle.

INCLUDED

National park hike

DAY 13 – SURF LESSON & ONTO BRISBANE

It is time to wake up early (and hopefully fresh) because today is your chance to learn how to surf. Local surf instructors will spend the morning getting you up on that board!

If you haven’t surfed before, that feeling of catching your first wave is something you will never forget! And may we add, the location, consisting of white beaches, palm trees and blue waters make it even better 🙂

After your half-day of catching those rays, it’s sadly time to head to Brisbane.

Tonight we will have our last dinner together and re-visiting the amazing experiences and memories we’ve made, combined with learning some awesome photography skills and advice from our two-to-one workshops.

INCLUDED

Breakfast, Surf lesson, photography workshop

DAY 14 – THE END

This morning we will say our goodbyes and our trip will end. Some of you will head back to reality and catch flights, some will continue your journey.

Simply let us know in advance (as this is peak season for travelling and we can arrange your next destination).
